A baby crocodile peeking out of a cracked egg is one of the cutest things you can draw, and it is easier than it looks. The whole picture is built from an egg shape, a soft dome for the head, two dots for eyes, a tiny smile, and a zigzag crack. Once you can draw those, you can make your own hatching baby.

How to draw a baby crocodile step by step

How to Draw a Baby Crocodile · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The egg

Draw a big egg shape that is rounder at the bottom and a little pointier at the top. Make it fill most of your page so there is room for the baby inside.

  3. Step 3: The baby's head

Inside the egg, draw a wide, soft dome for the top of the head, starting on the left about halfway up the egg and ending on the right. Let the sides curve down with a small bump and stop, leaving the bottom of the head open.

  4. Step 4: The two eyes

Draw two round dots in the middle of the head, side by side with a gap between them. Color them in solid black.

  5. Step 5: The tiny smile

Between the eyes and a little below them, draw a small wavy smile like a tiny letter w. Keep it short and sweet.

  6. Step 6: Cracks and paws

Start at the left edge of the egg and draw a zigzag crack going down and in toward the head. Add a small scalloped bump under the head for a paw, then do the same on the right side, with the crack going out to the egg's edge.

  7. Step 7: The shell point

Between the two paws, draw a pointy V shape for the broken piece of shell in front. Connect each end of the V to the inside of a paw.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a baby crocodile

  • Draw the egg first and keep your lines light, then fit the head inside it so the baby is not too big or too small.
  • The zigzag cracks are the trickiest part. Make the points sharp and keep both sides about the same height so the shell looks even.
  • Place the eyes wide apart and the smile small and low between them. That is what makes the baby look sweet.

Color the baby a bright leaf green and the egg a soft cream or light speckled brown. For a twist, give the egg polka dots or stripes, or draw a few more eggs around it that are still waiting to hatch.

Baby crocodile fun fact for kids

Baby crocodiles have a tiny hard bump on the tip of their snout called an egg tooth. They use it to break out of the egg, and it falls off a few weeks later.
