Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Fluffy head bottom
Draw the sides and bottom of the head like a cup, with two short lines going up on the left and right. Give the bottom and cheeks little wavy bumps so it looks like fluffy fur. Leave the top open for now.
Step 3: Ears and top of head
Draw a floppy ear on each side, like a rounded triangle that points down. Connect them with a gently curved line across the top to close the head.
Step 4: Body sides
Under the chin, draw a line down the left side and another down the right side. Curve each one out and around to make a round bottom on each side, and stop where the bottom starts to curve back in.
Step 5: Back legs
Inside each round bottom, draw a short curved line going down from the body toward the ground. These are the back legs of the puppy as it sits.
Step 6: Front legs and paws
Between the back legs, draw two short lines going down for the front legs. Join the bottoms with small curved bumps to make the paws, and connect the paws to the back legs.
Step 7: Two round eyes
Draw two solid dots in the upper middle of the face, side by side. Keep them the same size and a little way apart.
Step 8: Nose and mouth
Between the eyes and a bit lower, draw a small rounded triangle and color it in for the nose. Add a tiny line down from the nose, then a little curvy smile under it.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a terrier
- Draw the bottom of the head first and keep the bumps around the cheeks small and even. They are the trickiest part, so go slowly and let the line wiggle gently.
- Make the two ears about the same size and start each one at the top corner of the head so it looks attached.
- Leave a little space between the two front legs and keep them short. The paws are just small curves at the bottom.

How to color your terrier drawing
Try warm tan and brown for the fur with a dark nose and eyes, or pick a white and gray coat. For a creative twist, give your terrier a bright bandana or a collar with a tag.
Terrier fun fact for kids
The word terrier comes from the Latin word terra, which means earth. Many terriers were bred to chase small animals like mice and rats into their burrows, and they are good at digging.
Questions about drawing a terrier
What shapes do I need to draw a terrier?
You need a rounded shape for the head, a pear or egg shape for the body, and two rounded triangles for the ears. Short curved lines make the legs and paws, and two dots and a small triangle make the eyes and nose.
How do I make my terrier look cuter?
Draw the eyes as two solid dots set well apart, and add a tiny nose and smile. Keep the ears floppy and the head big compared to the body.
How do I draw fluffy fur?
Instead of a smooth line, draw little wavy bumps along the cheeks and chin. A few small bumps are enough to make the fur look soft.
