How to draw a ladle step by step

How to Draw a Ladle · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Bowl and handle outline

Draw one big outline for the whole ladle. Start with a round, deep bowl shape like a half circle, then keep going up from its right side into a long, bendy handle that ends in a rounded tip.

  2. Step 2: Inner handle line

Draw one long curved line inside the handle, along its right side. Keep it close to the outline and let it follow the same bend, starting near the bowl and ending near the rounded tip.

  3. Step 3: Hanging hole and rim

Draw a small slanted oval near the tip of the handle for the hanging hole. Then draw a wide curved line just inside the top of the bowl, going around the front to make the rim.

  4. Step 4: Soup edge and first drip

Draw a long, flat curve across the opening of the bowl for the edge of the soup. Add a second curve along the front of the bowl below it, and a little wavy drip hanging down on the left.

  5. Step 5: Drip details and small marks

Add a tiny U shape inside the drip and a few short curved marks on the left rim. Then draw a couple of little dashes inside the soup oval.

  6. Step 6: Ripples in the soup

Inside the soup oval, draw curved ripple lines, one inside another, like rings in a puddle. Leave small gaps so they look like gentle waves.

  7. Step 7: Handle shine

Add a few short slanted dashes along the handle near the top. Then draw a small slanted line where the handle meets the bowl.

  8. Step 8: Bowl shine

Draw two long curved lines on the outside of the bowl, one on the left side and one along the lower right. Let them follow the round shape of the bowl.

  9. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a ladle

  • Draw the bowl as a deep half circle first. The wide top and round bottom make the rest of the ladle easier to place.
  • Let the handle bend slowly, and keep the inner handle line about the same distance from the outline so the handle stays the same width.
  • Draw the soup edge lightly before the ripples. Then each ripple inside it can be a little smaller than the last.

How to color your ladle drawing

Try silver or gray for the metal ladle and a warm orange or red for tomato soup. You can leave the shine lines white so the metal looks like it is catching the light.

Ladle fun fact for kids

A ladle is a long-handled spoon with a deep bowl, made for scooping soup and other liquids into a bowl. People have used ladles made of wood, shell, or metal for thousands of years.

Questions about drawing a ladle

What shapes do I need to draw a ladle?

You need a half circle for the bowl and a long, bendy shape for the handle. A small oval near the tip makes the hanging hole, and a wide oval inside the bowl shows the soup.

How do I make my ladle look shiny?

Add a few short dashes on the handle and two long curved lines on the bowl, and keep those spots light when you color. The white paper will look like light bouncing off the metal.

How do I draw the soup drip?

Draw a short wavy line that hangs down from the soup edge and ends in a round bottom. Add a tiny U shape inside it to make it look wet.
