Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head and back
Start at the left, near the middle of the head, and draw a big curve up and over the top like a hill. Keep going down the back with a gently bumpy line until you reach a small point on the right for the tail tip.
Step 3: Chest and front foot
Start under the chin and draw a line straight down for the chest. At the bottom, curve it into a short, rounded foot that turns a little to the right.
Step 4: Belly, back foot and tail
Start at the bottom of the chest line and draw a wavy line along the bottom of the body to the right. Make a second rounded foot, then curve the line up and around to meet the tail tip.
Step 5: Tiny arm
On the left side of the chest, draw a small curved line, like a little parenthesis. It sits right against the body line and makes a tiny arm.
Step 6: Eyes and smile
Draw a small dot near the front of the head for one eye. Draw a bigger dot farther back for the other eye. Under the small dot, add a short curved smile like a little bowl.
Step 7: Belly curve
In the middle of the body, draw a short curve shaped like the letter U, tilted a little to the right. It makes a cozy tummy line.
Step 8: Back bumps
Along the back line, draw a row of small rounded bumps, like tiny scoops. Start near the neck with bigger ones and make them smaller as you reach the tail.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a pachycephalosaurus
- Draw the first curve slowly and in one smooth stroke. It shapes the head, back and tail all at once.
- Keep the chest line straight and let the feet curve out at the bottom. This helps your dinosaur stand up.
- Draw the back bumps last and make each one a little smaller than the one before. They look like they march down toward the tail.
