How to Draw Santa Holding Christmas Lights · tinyhandscreate.com
Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round tummy
Draw a big U shape low on your paper, like a wide bowl. This is the bottom half of Santa's round tummy, so leave the top open.
Step 3: Sides of the head
Above the tummy, draw a short wavy line on the left and another on the right for the sides of the head and beard. On the right side, finish with a little curl like a hook for Santa's hand.
Step 4: The hat
Draw a tall, curved hat on top of the head, with a puffy band across the bottom. Finish with a small round pom-pom curling at the tip.
Step 5: The happy face
Draw two small filled dots for eyes, side by side under the hat band. Add a little curved smile between and below them.
Step 6: Two little feet
At the bottom of the body, draw two rounded U shapes side by side for the feet. Let their tops tuck under the body.
Step 7: The string of lights
Draw a curved line that swings like a smile from one side, across the tummy, to the other side. Add small chunky sockets along it and at both ends.
Step 8: Hanging bulbs
Under the two middle sockets, draw a round circle that hangs down from each one. Make them the same size so they match.
Step 9: Side bulbs
Next to the left end of the string, draw two small circles that overlap a little. Add one more circle beside the socket on the right end.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing Santa holding Christmas lights
- Draw the string of lights as one smooth, smiling curve before you add the sockets. It is easier to place them once the curve is there.
- The round bulbs can wobble, and that is fine. Try drawing each circle in one slow trip around, and do not worry if the ends do not meet perfectly.
- Keep the two hanging bulbs the same height and size. Check by looking at them side by side.

How to color your Santa holding Christmas lights drawing
Make the hat and body classic red, the pom-pom and beard white, and color each bulb a different bright shade like yellow, green, blue and orange. For a creative twist, draw glow lines around each bulb and color the background dark blue so the lights seem to shine.
Santa holding Christmas lights fun fact for kids
The first electric Christmas tree lights were made in 1882 by Edward Johnson, who worked with Thomas Edison. He put 80 small red, white and blue bulbs on a tree at his home in New York City.
Questions about drawing Santa holding Christmas lights
What shapes do I need to draw Santa with lights?
You need a bowl-like U shape for the tummy, wavy lines for the head, a curved hat with a pom-pom, and lots of circles for the bulbs. A long curved line holds the lights together.
How do I make my Santa look cuter?
Keep the eyes small dots and put the smile low and small between them. A round, chubby tummy and a big pom-pom also add to the cuteness.
How can I draw the Christmas lights so they look even?
Draw the string as one long curve first, then add the sockets along it. Draw each hanging bulb as a circle under its socket, and compare the sizes of the two middle ones.
