  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The cookie shape

Draw one big wide bowl shape for the cookie. Start at the top left with a rounded bump, curve down and around the bottom, then come back up to a rounded bump on the right, with a gentle dip in the middle between the two bumps.

  3. Step 3: The paper fortune

Draw a tall, tilted rectangle poking up out of the dip in the middle of the cookie. Its bottom end sits right in the dip.

  4. Step 4: The little star

Draw a tiny star in the middle of the paper rectangle. Start with a point at the top and zigzag around to make five points.

  5. Step 5: The center crease

Draw a short curved line going down from the bottom of the dip, just under the paper. It shows where the cookie folds.

  6. Step 6: Round eyes

Draw two round dots for eyes, side by side on the lower part of the cookie. Make them the same size and color them in.

  7. Step 7: A smiling mouth

Draw a small U-shaped curve between the eyes, a little lower down. This makes your cookie look happy.

  8. Step 8: Curvy eyebrows

Draw one curved arch above each eye, like a little rainbow, up in the cookie's rounded bumps. Let each one slope down toward the middle.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

  • Draw the big bowl shape first, and try to make the two rounded bumps on top match in height.
  • Tilt the paper rectangle a little so it looks like it is poking out of the cookie, with its bottom end in the dip.
  • Make the star small and draw it in the middle of the paper. Five little points are easier if you start at the top and zigzag around.

Fortune cookies are folded while they are still hot from the oven, because they turn crisp and hard once they cool.
