A penguin standing beside a hole in the ice with a fishing rod is a cozy, funny scene. It is built from a circle, an egg shape, and a few ovals, with a small triangle for the beak. If you can draw an egg and a circle, you can draw this penguin.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big curved arch near the top of your paper, like the top of a circle. Stop on each side and leave the bottom open where the body will join.
Step 3: The egg-shaped body
Start under the left side of the head and draw a long curved side that bulges out and comes back together at the bottom, like an egg. Then draw a curved line under the chin to connect the head and body, and a short line down from the right side of the head.
Step 4: The heart-shaped face
Inside the head, draw a rounded shape with two bumps on top that dip in the middle, like a heart. Make it nearly as wide as the head.
Step 5: Eyes and beak
Add two round dots for eyes, side by side in the middle of the face. Draw a small triangle pointing down between and below them for the beak.
Step 6: Two flippers
On the left, draw a pointed leaf shape sticking out from the body. On the right, draw a curved arm that bends out and down from the side of the body.
Step 7: The belly
Draw a big oval in the middle of the body for the penguin's tummy. Leave space around it so it sits nicely inside.
Step 8: Feet and ground
At the bottom of the body, draw two little rounded bumps, like upside-down Us, for the feet. Then draw a long flat line across the paper for the ground.
Step 9: Ice hole and fishing rod
Draw a wide flat oval on the ground to the right for the hole in the ice. Draw the fishing line from the penguin's flipper with a tiny loop, go right to a corner, then straight down into the hole.
Step 10: The little fish
Next to the rod, above the hole, draw an oval for the fish's body and add a small dot for its eye. Finish with a small tail at the bottom of the oval, near the hole.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a penguin ice fishing
- Draw the head arch first and leave the bottom open, so the body can tuck neatly underneath it.
- The fishing rod is the trickiest part. Start at the flipper, draw the line to the corner, then go straight down into the ice hole.
- Keep the belly oval a little smaller than you think it should be, so there is room between it and the body outline.

How to color your penguin ice fishing drawing
Color the head, back, and flippers dark blue or black, and leave the belly and face white, with an orange beak and feet. Give the fish bright stripes if you like, and color the ice hole light blue.
Penguin ice fishing fun fact for kids
Penguins cannot fly, but they are excellent swimmers. They use their stiff flippers like wings to zoom through the water, and real penguins catch fish by diving, not with a fishing rod.
Questions about drawing a penguin ice fishing
What shapes do I need to draw a penguin ice fishing?
You need a curved arch for the head, an egg shape for the body, and ovals for the belly, fish, and ice hole. A small triangle makes the beak, and a heart shape makes the face.
How do I make my penguin look cuter?
Keep the eyes as simple dots and the beak small. A big round head on a small body makes any penguin look extra sweet.
How do I draw the ice hole so it looks flat?
Draw it as a wide, squished oval lying on the ground line, much wider than it is tall. The flat shape makes it look like it is lying on the ice.
