A smiling sun with its planets is a fun drawing because it is made mostly of circles. You also need short lines for the sun's rays, little dots for stars, and one wobbly shape for the ringed planet. It is a nice way to practice drawing round shapes in different sizes.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big sun
On the left side of the page, draw a big circle for the sun. Make it about as tall as your hand is wide so there is plenty of room around it.
Step 3: The biggest planet
At the bottom right, draw a large circle for a planet. Leave a gap between it and the sun so the page does not feel crowded.
Step 4: The middle planet
Above and to the left of the big planet, draw a medium circle. Try to make it a little smaller than the big planet.
Step 5: A small planet and a dot
Draw a small circle near the top, to the right of the sun. Then add a tiny dot below the medium planet, close to the bottom of the page, for a faraway little planet.
Step 6: The ringed planet
Near the top right, next to the small circle, draw a lumpy, tilted oval shape that looks like a planet with a ring around it. Use one wobbly line and join it back to where you started.
Step 7: Rays, face and stars
Around the sun, draw short straight lines like spokes of a wheel, then add two dots for eyes and a curved smile inside. Next, add two short lines across the ringed planet and scatter small dots in loose curves between the planets for stars. Last, draw a tiny circle with a hole in it beside the big planet.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing the solar system
- Draw the sun first and keep it big. Every planet is easier to place once you know where the sun sits.
- The ringed planet is the trickiest part. Think of a tilted oval with a ring around it, and draw it as one slow, wobbly line.
- Space the star dots out in loose curved lines. Try not to line them up in a straight row, so the sky looks like it is twinkling.
