Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Draw a big, wide curve like an upside-down bowl near the top of your page. Leave a small gap at the bottom where the body will join.
Step 3: The square body
Under the head, draw a box with rounded corners that is a little narrower than the head. Let the top edge meet the open bottom of the head.
Step 4: Face and hair curl
Add two small dots for eyes and a curved smile between them. Then draw a little curl on top of the head like a loose strand of hair.
Step 5: Collar and tie
Inside the top of the body, draw a V shape of two lines for the collar. Then add a long tie in the middle with a small bar for the knot and a pointed bottom.
Step 6: Left arm and leg marks
Draw a long curved line down the left side of the body for the arm, and finish it with a small circle for the hand and a short line for the sleeve. Then add three tiny lines under the bottom of the body.
Step 7: Arm reaching out
On the right side, draw a gently curved arm reaching out from the body with two long lines. End it with a small round hand.
Step 8: The microphone
Above the hand, draw a rounded box for the handle. Add a narrow neck on top and a dome-shaped head with a line across it, then a short stem down to the hand.
Step 9: Two big shoes
Under the body, draw two flat ovals side by side so they touch in the middle. These are the reporter's shoes.
Step 10: The camera
To the right of the microphone, draw a rounded rectangle for the camera. Add a small bump on top and leave the right side open for now.
Step 11: Lens and tripod
Draw a small square lens on the right side of the camera. Then under the camera, add three long lines that start at one point and spread out like a tent: one straight down and one slanting to each side.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a news reporter
- Draw the head wide, then make the body box narrower so the head looks big and friendly.
- The microphone is the trickiest part. Draw the rounded handle box first, then the neck and the dome on top, and keep them lined up straight above the hand.
- For the tripod, start at one point under the camera and let three lines spread out. Draw the middle line first so the side legs match.

News reporter fun fact for kids
News crews often put their cameras on a tripod, a stand with three legs. Three legs make it stand steady even on bumpy ground, so the picture does not shake.
