A judge with a wooden gavel is a fun character to draw because she is built from simple shapes. You will start with curved lines for the face, then add curly hair, oval ears, a bell-shaped robe and oval shoes. The curly hair and the little gavel make her look friendly and ready to keep order in the courtroom.

How to draw a judge step by step

How to Draw a Judge · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Sides of the face

Draw two curved lines for the sides of the face, one on the left and one on the right. Each one curves down and in toward the chin, and the bottom is left open.

  3. Step 3: Curly hair

Draw a cloud of bumpy curls over the top of the head, like a fluffy cloud with scalloped edges. Then add a wavy line across the forehead where the hair ends.

  4. Step 4: Ears and gavel handle

Draw a tall oval on each side of the head, tucked in under the hair. Then, off to the right of the head, draw a short straight line going up and down with a little hook at the bottom for the gavel handle.

  5. Step 5: The robe

Under the head, draw a wide shape like a bell or a trapezoid, narrower at the top and wider at the bottom. Add a straight line down the middle.

  6. Step 6: Arms and hands

On the left side, draw a long bent oval for the arm with a small circle hand at the bottom. On the right side, draw an arm reaching out like a long leaf shape, ending in a small circle hand at the bottom of the handle.

  7. Step 7: Shoes

Draw two small ovals side by side under the robe so they touch in the middle. Add two tiny lines to connect them to the robe.

  8. Step 8: Face and collar

Add two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile in the middle of the face. Then draw a V shape at the top of the robe for the collar.

  9. Step 9: Gavel head and block

At the top of the handle, draw a rounded rectangle for the gavel head. On the ground to the right, draw a flat rounded rectangle with a short, wider-at-the-bottom stand underneath.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a judge

  • Draw the two curved sides of the face first and leave the top open, so the cloud of curly hair fits over it without crowding.
  • Make the curls bumpy and different sizes, with a little dip between each one. The hair is the trickiest part, so go slowly.
  • Draw the short gavel handle early, then reach the arm out so the small circle hand sits at the bottom of the handle. Finish by putting the rounded rectangle on top.
