Step 1: Curved hat top
Start at the bottom left and draw one long curve that swoops up and over to the right, like the left side of a bent cone. Stop with a little hook downward at the right end.
Step 2: The pom-pom
Draw a small circle at the end of the curve, so the hat's tip touches the top of the circle.
Step 3: Drooping tip and right side
Start just under the pom-pom and curve left, then turn and draw a long, gentle line that slides down to make the right side of the hat.
Step 4: The zigzag trim
Near the bottom of the hat, draw a zigzag line like a row of little mountains, going up and down from the left side across to the right side.
Step 5: Left band edge
Starting at the left end of the zigzag, draw a short curved line straight down along the left edge of the hat.
Step 6: Ears and band bottom
On each side of the hat, draw a pointy leaf shape that sticks out like an ear. Then draw a gently curved line along the bottom to join the two ears and close the band.
Step 7: Inside the ears
Inside each ear, draw one short curved line that follows the shape of the ear.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an elf hat
- Draw the curve of the hat in one smooth stroke. If it wobbles, lightly sketch a cone first and trace over it.
- Make the zigzag points about the same size. Mark small dots in a row first, then connect them going up and down.
- Draw both ears at about the same height and size. Start with the left one, then copy its shape on the right.
