How to Draw a Brick Wall (Easy Step by Step)
A brick wall is a great first drawing because it is built from just rectangles and straight lines. A tiny sprout with two leaves on top makes it look like something is growing right out of the stones. All you need is a big rounded box, some lines, and two pointy leaf shapes.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The wall frame
Draw a big rectangle with softly rounded corners, wider than it is tall. This is the outside edge of your wall.
Step 3: First row lines
Draw two straight lines going all the way across the wall, from the left side to the right side. Put the first one a little below the top edge, then draw the second one a bit lower.
Step 4: Lower row lines
Draw two more straight lines across the wall, below the first two. Try to leave the same gap between every line so the rows of bricks match.
Step 5: Brick joints
Draw short up-and-down lines to cut each row into bricks. Put the lines in different spots in each row, so the joints do not line up with the row above.
Step 6: Stem and big leaf
Start on top of the wall and draw a short, slightly wobbly line going up for the stem. At the top, draw a curve going out to the right and back to the stem to make a pointy leaf, like a little lemon.
Step 7: The small leaf
On the left side of the stem, draw a second leaf a little lower. Curve out from the stem, make a pointy end, and curve back.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a brick wall
- Draw the long lines across the wall first, then add the short joints. It is much easier to keep the rows straight this way.
- Shift the joints in each row so they sit in the middle of the bricks above and below. That is what makes it look like a real wall.
- For the leaves, think of two little lemons that touch the stem at one pointy end. Draw the curved top first, then the curved bottom.

How to color your brick wall drawing
Color the bricks in warm reds, oranges, and browns, and leave thin gaps between them for the mortar. For a creative twist, give each brick a different color to make a rainbow wall with a bright green sprout on top.
Brick wall fun fact for kids
Bricks are stacked so each row is shifted sideways from the row below. This overlapping pattern makes a wall much stronger than stacking bricks in straight columns.
