How to Draw an Aster Flower (Easy Step by Step)
An aster is a star-shaped flower, and this one is built from a few simple shapes: one circle, a ring of oval petals, a straight stem, and two pointy leaves. The little face in the middle makes it extra friendly. It is a great drawing for practicing how to space petals evenly around a center.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Face circle
Draw a big round circle in the middle of your page. Add two little dots inside for eyes, so your flower has a happy face.
Step 3: The top petal
Start at the top of the circle and draw a tall oval petal pointing straight up. Close it where it touches the circle again.
Step 4: Upper petals
Draw a petal leaning up and to the left and another leaning up and to the right of the top petal. Then add one more curved petal farther out on each side, starting at the circle.
Step 5: Side and lower petals
Add a wide petal reaching out to the left and another to the right of the circle. Then draw a petal angled down on each side, like the rays of a sun.
Step 6: The bottom petal
Draw a tall petal hanging straight down from the bottom of the circle, between the two angled petals. Leave the bottom end open for now.
Step 7: Little petals
Tuck a small rounded petal on each side of the bottom petal, near its lower end. Keep them short and curvy like little bumps.
Step 8: The stem
From the bottom of the hanging petal, draw two straight lines going down, close together. Join them at the bottom with a small curve.
Step 9: Two leaves
Draw a pointy leaf on each side of the stem, shaped like a football cut in half. Start each one low on the stem and sweep it out and up.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an aster flower
- Draw the center circle first and keep it light, then add the petals one at a time so they all start from the circle.
- Work your way around the circle: top petal first, then the ones beside it, then the sides, so the petals come out even.
- The two small petals beside the bottom one are the trickiest. Draw the bottom petal first, then tuck the little ones in next to its lower end.

Aster flower fun fact for kids
The word aster comes from the Greek word for star, because the petals spread out from the middle like a star.
Questions about drawing an aster flower
What shapes do I need to draw an aster?
You need one circle for the center, ovals for the petals, and two pointy leaf shapes. The stem is just two straight lines joined at the bottom.
How do I make my aster flower look cuter?
Give the center two dot eyes, just like in this drawing, and try adding a little smile or rosy cheeks. Rounder, plumper petals also look friendlier.
How many petals does an aster have?
Real asters have lots of thin petals. In this drawing there are about a dozen, including two small ones near the bottom. That keeps it easy to draw and still looks like a flower.
