How to Draw a Window (Easy Step by Step)
A window is a cozy thing to draw because it is made of straight lines, rounded corners, and gentle curves. Once you have the frame and the plus sign in the middle, the curtains and the little flower pot are easy to add. It is a great drawing for practicing straight lines and matching both sides.

Step 1: Frame top and sides
Draw a tall arch shape: a line across the top with rounded corners, and two straight lines going down from each end. Leave the bottom open for now.
Step 2: Rod and plus sign
Near the top, draw a short straight line across the middle for the curtain rod. Under it, draw a tall line going down the center and a wide line going across, so they cross like a plus sign.
Step 3: The curtains
On each side of the middle, draw a long curved line that starts at the rod and sweeps down and outward, ending in a little flick. Make both sides match.
Step 4: Curtain bottoms
On the left, draw a short wavy line from the frame to the curtain, then a bendy line curving down from it. On the right, draw a bendy line curving down from the curtain's flick.
Step 5: The windowsill
Draw a long wavy line across the bottom of the window. Then draw a thick, flat bar with rounded ends underneath it, like a shelf.
Step 6: Flower pot and tieback
On the right side of the sill, draw a small cup shape that is wider at the top. Add a bumpy cloud of three little round flowers on top, then draw a short wavy line from the right curtain out to the frame.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a window
- Draw the plus sign straight and in the center. The four glass panes appear around it, so keep the lines even to make the panes the same size.
- The curtains are the trickiest part. Make one side first, then copy its curve on the other side so they match.
- Keep the flower pot small and draw it near the end, so you have room between the curtain and the sill.

How to color your window drawing
Try light blue or yellow for the glass, with bright curtains in red, green, or purple. Color the flowers pink or orange and the pot brown. For a creative twist, add a sunny sky or a rainy day outside.
Window fun fact for kids
The word window comes from an old Norse word, vindauga, which means wind eye, because early windows were open holes that let in air and light.
Questions about drawing a window
What shapes do I need to draw a window?
You need an arch-shaped frame, a plus sign for the panes, and a thick bar for the sill. The curtains are long curved lines, and the flower pot is a cup shape with round flowers on top.
How do I make the curtains look the same on both sides?
Draw one curtain first, then look at where it starts and ends. Start the other curtain at the same height and curve it the opposite way.
How do I make my window look cozier?
Add a flower pot on the windowsill and draw the little tieback lines that hold the curtains. Coloring the curtains in warm colors helps too.
