A St. Patrick's Day cupcake is a cheerful drawing made from very simple shapes: one puffy outline for the frosting and cup, a wavy line, and a little three-leaf shamrock on top. It is a great first project because every part is rounded and forgiving, so wobbly lines still look sweet.

How to draw a St. Patrick's Day cupcake step by step

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Cupcake outline

Draw one big outline for the whole cupcake. Start with a puffy, bumpy top for the frosting, then let the line curve out at the sides and come back in. Draw two slanted sides that go down and a little inward, and join them with a gently curved bottom.

  3. Step 3: Wavy frosting line

Draw a soft wavy line across the cupcake from the left side to the right side. This is where the frosting meets the paper cup.

  4. Step 4: Top of the shamrock

Above the frosting, draw a small curved bump that looks like a little arch. It is the top of the shamrock's top leaf.

  5. Step 5: Left and right leaves

Draw a wiggly round leaf on the left and another on the right of the top bump. Start each one near the top leaf and curve it out and down until it touches the frosting. Make them about the same size.

  6. Step 6: Shamrock fold lines

Draw two tiny short lines in the middle of the shamrock, one on each side, slanting toward the center. They show where the leaves fold together.

  7. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a St. Patrick's Day cupcake

  • Keep the top of the cupcake wider than the bottom, so the cup looks like a real cupcake wrapper.
  • Make the frosting bumpy and puffy, like a soft cloud, and let the bumps be different sizes.
  • Draw the wavy line so it touches both slanted sides of the cup, and keep the waves gentle.
  • For the shamrock, draw the three leaves about the same size and let them touch the frosting, then add the two small fold lines last.
