How to Draw a Narwhal (Easy Step by Step)
A narwhal is a sweet and silly sea creature with a long pointy tusk, and it is easy to draw because it is made from simple shapes. You will use a big oval for the body, a cone for the tusk, and two round lobes for the tail. A couple of dots and a curve give it a happy face, and a belly line and a small flipper finish it off.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Round body outline
Draw a big round oval for the body, starting at the top right and curving around the left side and along the bottom. Leave a small gap on the right side, where the tail will join.
Step 3: The tail fin
At the gap on the right, draw the tail. Make two rounded lobes, one above and one below, with a little notch between them, a bit like a wavy heart on its side.
Step 4: The long tusk
On top of the head at the left, draw a tall, pointy cone that leans up and to the left. Start at the head, draw one straight side and one curved side, and let them meet at a sharp tip.
Step 5: Tusk stripes
Draw two short slanted lines across the tusk, one above the other, like the rungs of a little ladder. Keep them about the same slant.
Step 6: The happy face
Draw two small round dots for eyes on the left side of the body. Then draw a tiny smile, shaped like the letter U, below and between them.
Step 7: The tummy line
Draw a long, gentle curve across the lower part of the body. Start it at the left edge and let it sweep toward the tail, to mark the belly.
Step 8: Flipper and belly
Under the body, draw a small rounded loop like a letter U hanging down for the flipper. Then draw a curved line from the loop up toward the tail to close the gap along the bottom of the body.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a narwhal
- Draw the body as a light oval first, then trace over it. A round, plump shape makes the narwhal look cuddly.
- The tail is the trickiest part. Think of two rounded bumps with a small dent between them, and draw one bump at a time.
- Keep the tusk leaning to one side and the two stripes slanted the same way. Look at them from a little way back to check that they match.
