A movie theatre is a fun drawing because it is mostly rectangles, with one shiny star on top to make it special. Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The building walls
Draw a big tall U shape for the front of the theatre: a straight line down on the left, a flat line across the bottom, and a straight line up on the right. Leave the top open, because the wide sign will cover it.
Step 3: The wide sign
Draw a long, wide rectangle with soft rounded corners across the top of the walls. It sticks out a little past the walls on both sides, like a hat.
Step 4: The sign boards
On top of the wide sign, draw two tall boxes, one on the left and one on the right. Start each at the sign, go up, and bend across the top. Leave a gap in the middle between them.
Step 5: The shining star
Draw a big star in the middle, between the two boxes. Start at the top point and zigzag down and around, so the star's two feet rest on the wide sign.
Step 6: The ticket window
On the left side of the building, below the wide sign, draw a wide rectangle with rounded corners. This is the window where people buy tickets.
Step 7: The doors
On the right side, draw a tall rectangle that starts at the bottom of the building and goes up until its top lines up with the top of the ticket window. Then draw one straight line down the middle to make two doors.
Step 8: Door handles
Add two small round dots on the doors, one on each side of the middle line. These are the handles for pulling the doors open.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a movie theatre
- Draw the star lightly in pencil first. Make a small dot at the top, two dots for the side points, and two dots for the feet, then connect them.
- The star sits in front of the two boxes. Draw the boxes first, then draw the star over them and erase any box lines that run through the star.
- Draw the doors from the bottom up so the two bottom corners sit flat on the bottom line of the building, and keep the middle line straight.

How to color your movie theatre drawing
Try a golden yellow star, red doors, and a deep blue sign, like a classic movie night. For a twist, write a movie title on the wide sign and draw a little poster in the ticket window.
Movie theatre fun fact for kids
The first movie theatres were called nickelodeons, because people paid a nickel, which is five cents, to watch a short film. The first one to use the name opened in Pittsburgh in 1905.
