How to Draw a Mailbox (Easy Step by Step)
A mailbox is a fun thing to draw because it is built from simple boxes and one rounded arch. You will draw a long box with a door, a tall post, a little flag, and a letter with a heart on it. Two small flowers and some grass at the bottom make it feel like a real front yard.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The mailbox body
Start with a long box: draw a flat line across the top, a short curve down the left end, and a flat line along the bottom. Then, on the right end, draw a tall rounded door shaped like an arch that hangs down below the bottom of the box.
Step 3: The post
Under the left part of the box, draw two straight lines going down and join them at the bottom with a flat line to make a tall rectangle. Add a short straight line in the middle as a little wood-grain mark.
Step 4: The flag
Draw a tall straight line that starts inside the box near the left end and goes up. At the top, draw a small rectangle with rounded corners that sticks out to the right.
Step 5: The letter
On the door, draw a tilted rectangle for an envelope. Add a V shape inside the top for the flap, and finish it with a tiny heart in the middle.
Step 6: Flower heads
Draw two small rounded blobs on the ground, one on each side of the post. These are the flower heads.
Step 7: Stems and grass
Draw a short stem under each flower head, and add a little leaf on the left stem. Finish with a small tuft of grass on each side, made of a few short curved lines.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a mailbox
- Draw the long box first and the rounded door second, so the door sits on the right end and hangs a little below the bottom line.
- Keep the two post lines straight and the same distance apart. A ruler edge or the side of a book can help the first time.
- Draw the envelope slightly tilted, then add the V flap and the tiny heart last so the small lines do not get crowded.

How to color your mailbox drawing
Try a bright blue or red box with a wooden brown post, a red flag, and yellow and pink flowers in green grass. For a creative twist, color the envelope a surprise color.
Mailbox fun fact for kids
In the United States, a mailbox flag is raised to tell the mail carrier that there is outgoing mail inside to pick up. The carrier lowers the flag again after taking the letters.
Questions about drawing a mailbox
What shapes do I need to draw a mailbox?
You need a long box with a flat top and bottom, a tall rectangle for the post, and a small rounded rectangle for the flag. The letter is just a tilted rectangle with a V on top.
How do I make my mailbox look like it has a door?
Draw a tall arch on the right end of the box that hangs a little below the bottom line. That overlap makes the door look like it opens out.
How can I make my mailbox look more fun?
Add a heart on the envelope, plant flowers by the post, or color the box in stripes or polka dots. You can also give the post a funny pattern.
