Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The fish body
Draw a big, round oval in the middle of your page, but leave a small gap on the right side. This is the goldfish's chubby body.
Step 3: The tail
Start at the gap on the right side of the body. Draw a tail shaped like a bow tie or a fan that curves out, then comes back in to touch the body again.
Step 4: Face, bubbles and plant
Draw a solid round dot for the eye near the left side, a tiny smile under it, and a curved line beside it for the gill. Add a short line where the tail joins the body and a little curve under the belly. Then draw three small bubble circles above the fish, and a small Y shape with a stem at the bottom left for the plant.
Step 5: The bowl
Draw a big circle all around your fish, leaving a wavy top edge like a gentle wave. The fish should float in the middle with room to spare.
Step 6: The water line
Inside the bowl, draw a long wavy line from the left side of the bowl across toward the bubbles. This shows where the water begins.
Step 7: A plant leaf
On top of the plant stem, between the two side leaves, draw a tall, narrow leaf shaped like a long oval.
Step 8: Pebbles
Along the bottom of the bowl, draw three small ovals in a row for pebbles. Let the last one touch the edge of the bowl.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a goldfish in a bowl
- Draw the fish first, then draw the bowl around it. That way you will never run out of room.
- The tail can look tricky. Think of a bow tie lying on its side, with the narrow middle touching the body.
- Make the bubbles different sizes. Small circles are easy to draw, and a few tiny ones inside make them look shiny.
