Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Start with a big, round oval for the head, leaving a small gap at the bottom. Add a couple of little round bumps on each side for his ears.
Step 3: The vest body
Under the head, draw a rounded box for his vest and body. Start at the gap below the head, go down each side, and finish with a flat line along the bottom.
Step 4: Round glasses
Draw two small round circles for his glasses, one on each side of the face. Join them in the middle with a short straight line for the bridge, then put a small dot in each circle for the eyes.
Step 5: Mustache and smile
Under the glasses, draw a big wavy mustache that looks like two puffy hills side by side. Add a little curved smile below it. Then add two tiny dots on the vest for buttons and two short lines under the vest for his legs.
Step 6: Bow tie and vest line
Draw a bow tie at his neck with two little triangles meeting at a tiny center knot. Then draw a straight line from the bow tie down the middle of the vest.
Step 7: Arms and hands
Draw a long oval arm on each side of the vest. Finish each arm with a small circle for a hand at the end. His arm on the right can bend out a little.
Step 8: The walking cane
Next to his right hand, draw a long straight line going down to the ground. At the top, curve the line into a hook like the top of a candy cane.
Step 9: Shoes
At the bottom of his legs, draw two wide ovals for the shoes, side by side and almost touching.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a grandpa
- Draw the big head first and keep your lines light. The little ear bumps on the sides are easier to add when the main oval is already there.
- The mustache is the trickiest part. Think of two puffy hills side by side, then add the little smile underneath.
- Make the two glasses circles about the same size, and draw the short line between them before adding the eye dots, so they stay even.

How to color your grandpa drawing
Try gray or white for his mustache, a warm brown or green for the vest, and a bright red or blue for the bow tie. For a creative twist, give him a rainbow-striped cane or a pair of shoes in two different colors.
Grandpa fun fact for kids
Many people get gray or white hair as they get older because the hair stops making as much of the color pigment called melanin.
