Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head outline
Draw the left side and bottom of a big round head, starting with one small spike at the top left. Leave the right side open for now and keep your lines light.
Step 3: Spiky hair and fringe
Across the top of the head, draw a zigzag row of pointy spikes that goes up and down. Then add a wavy line across the forehead to show where the hair stops.
Step 4: Face and neck
Draw two small round dots for eyes, side by side in the middle of the face. Under them, add a little curved smile, then a tiny short line below the chin for the neck.
Step 5: Shirt and shorts
Under the head, draw two straight side lines for the shirt and a curved line across for the hem. Below it, draw the shorts as a short box with a wavy bottom edge.
Step 6: Waving arm
On the right side of the shirt, draw a curved line that swoops up toward the face. Finish with a small curly hand near the cheek, and carry the line up the side of the head to close the hair.
Step 7: The other arm
On the left side, draw a bendy arm that curves out and down from the shirt. Round off the end to make the hand.
Step 8: A star on the shirt
In the middle of the shirt, draw a small star outline with five points.
Step 9: Legs
Under the shorts, draw two short straight lines going down, one on each side. Add one small dash below them in the middle.
Step 10: Big round shoes
At the bottom of each leg, draw a rounded dome shape for the shoe. Add a straight line across each one for the sole and close the bottom with a flat line.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a boy
- Draw the head outline first and make it big. The hair spikes sit across the top of it, so leaving room above makes them much easier to fit.
- The waving arm is the trickiest part. Draw it as one smooth curve from the shirt up toward the face, then add the small curly hand near the cheek.
- Make the spikes different heights. A few tall ones with shorter ones on the sides looks lively and keeps the hair from looking stiff.

How to color your boy drawing
Try bright yellow or orange hair, a red or blue shirt with a yellow star, and green shorts. For a creative twist, color each hair spike a different color, like a rainbow crown.
Boy fun fact for kids
Your hair grows about half an inch every month, which adds up to roughly six inches in a year.
