How to draw a leprechaun hat step by step

How to Draw a Leprechaun Hat · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The tall hat

Draw a short curved line for the top edge, like a squashed lid. Then draw two straight sides going down from each end, leaning a tiny bit outward like a tall bucket.

  3. Step 3: The wide brim

At the bottom of the hat, draw a big flat oval that sticks out past both sides. Add a short curved line where the hat sits on the brim.

  4. Step 4: The top opening

Draw a gentle curve just below the top edge, from one side to the other, to finish the oval opening of the hat.

  5. Step 5: The hat band

Near the bottom of the hat, draw a slightly curved line from one side to the other. This makes a wide band around the hat.

  6. Step 6: The buckle

In the middle of the band, draw a rounded square with a curved left side and a tall right side. Then draw a small rectangle inside it for the hole.

  7. Step 7: The shamrock

Above the band on the right, draw a small heart-shaped leaf on top, then a rounded leaf on the left and one on the right. Finish with a short stem going down toward the buckle.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a leprechaun hat

  • Draw the two sides of the hat so they are nearly straight and almost the same length. If one leans too far, the hat will look crooked.
  • Make the brim much wider than the top of the hat. It should stick out past both sides like a big flat plate.
  • For the shamrock, draw three small rounded leaves that touch in the middle. The top leaf can look like a heart, with two bumps on top and a point at the bottom.

Leprechaun hat fun fact for kids

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, and many people wear green and shamrocks that day. In Irish folk stories, leprechauns are small fairy shoemakers.

Questions about drawing a leprechaun hat

What shapes do I need to draw a leprechaun hat?

You need ovals and curved lines for the top and brim, two straight lines for the sides, a rounded square with a small rectangle for the buckle, and three rounded leaves for the shamrock.

How do I make the hat look tall?

Draw the sides long, and keep the top narrower than the brim. A tall, slim top and a wide brim make it look like a classic leprechaun hat.

How do I draw a shamrock easily?

Draw one heart-shaped leaf on top and a rounded leaf on each side, all meeting in the middle, then add a short stem. If your leaves look uneven, that is fine, because real shamrocks are not perfect either.
