How to Draw a Soccer Ball (Easy Step by Step)
A soccer ball is a fun first drawing because it is mostly one big circle with a pattern inside. You only need a circle, a pentagon, and some curved lines. The speed lines on the side make it look like it was just kicked.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The ball
Draw a big circle in the middle of the page. Take your time and let your hand make one smooth, round line.
Step 3: Center pentagon
Near the middle of the ball, draw a pentagon, a shape with five sides that looks like a little house with a flat bottom. Then add a short line going out from each corner.
Step 4: Top V lines
Start at the end of the top short line. Draw two gently curved lines that sweep up and out, one to the left and one to the right, making a wide V. Stop when they almost touch the edge of the circle.
Step 5: Upper side lines
Draw one nearly straight line down on the left and one on the right. Each starts where a V line ends at the edge and goes down to the end of the short line on the side of the pentagon.
Step 6: Side panel edges
Start at the end of each side line. Draw a curved line that slants down and out to the edge of the ball, one on the left and one on the right.
Step 7: Lower curves
Start at the end of each short line near the bottom corners of the pentagon. Draw a gentle curved line out to the edge of the ball on each side.
Step 8: Bottom panel
Start at the ends of the two short lines below the pentagon. Draw two lines that curve down and meet in a point at the bottom of the circle.
Step 9: Speed lines
On the left of the ball, draw three short curved lines, one above the other, with the middle one a little longer. They show that your ball is zooming through the air.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a soccer ball
- Draw the big circle first and keep it light. Every other line has to fit inside it, so a rounder circle makes the rest easier.
- The pentagon is the trickiest part. Try making a little house shape with a flat bottom, then add one more line to close it.
- Make the lines from the pentagon curve a little toward the edge. Slightly bent lines make the flat drawing look round like a real ball.

How to color your soccer ball drawing
Fill the center pentagon and the small shape at the bottom with black or dark blue and leave the rest white, or pick your favorite team colors. For a creative twist, color the speed lines in a rainbow.
Soccer ball fun fact for kids
Many classic soccer balls are made from 32 panels: 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons stitched together. The shape they make is called a truncated icosahedron.
