Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Start with a big circle near the top of your page. This round head is the biggest part of your puppy, so draw it nice and round.
Step 3: Floppy ears
Draw a long rounded ear on each side of the head. Start each ear at the edge of the circle, curve out and down, then come back to touch the circle lower down.
Step 4: The nose
In the middle of the face, a little below the center, draw a small oval for the nose. Think of a tiny egg lying on its side.
Step 5: Face and neck
Draw two small dots for eyes, one on each side of the nose. Under the nose, draw a little smile with a small tongue in the middle. Then add two short lines hanging down from the bottom of the head for the neck.
Step 6: The body
Under the head, draw a big rounded bell shape that starts at the neck lines and gets wider toward the bottom. Then add two short straight lines at the bottom, side by side in the middle, to show the space between the front legs.
Step 7: Collar and tag
Draw a curved band across the neck where the head meets the body. Then add a small circle hanging from the middle of the collar for the name tag.
Step 8: Leg lines
Draw one long, straight line down each side of the body, close to the outer edge. Start below the chest and stop at the bottom, so each front leg gets its own shape.
Step 9: The wagging tail
On the right side of the body, draw a curved tail that starts low on the body, swoops up and ends in a point. Make it look like it is wagging happily.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a puppy
- Draw the head circle first and leave room underneath, so the body and collar have space and do not get squeezed.
- Make both ears about the same size by drawing the first one, then looking at it while you draw the second.
- The long leg lines are the trickiest part. Draw them straight down, close to the edge of the body, and keep both about the same length.

Puppies are born with their eyes closed. They usually open them when they are about two weeks old.
