How to draw Turtwig step by step

How to Draw Turtwig · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The head

Draw a big round curve on the left side of your paper for the head. Leave the right side open, and end the bottom of the curve with a short tick going down for the neck.

  3. Step 3: Top of the shell

Start at the right side of the head and draw a long hill-shaped curve going up and over to the right, ending partway down. Then add a short bent line under the head to make the neck.

  4. Step 4: Shell side and bottom

Continue the hill by drawing down the right side of the shell. Then curve a long, gentle line along the bottom back toward the head.

  5. Step 5: Shell rim and front feet

Draw a curved line down the left edge of the shell, then a long curve along the bottom with a little pointed tail on the right. Under the head, draw two small rounded feet, one just behind the other.

  6. Step 6: Belly and back foot

Draw a short, slightly curved line under the shell for the belly. Then add one more rounded foot near the tail, starting from the bottom of the shell.

  7. Step 7: The eye

Fill in one small round dot on the head, near the left side. Press down to make it dark.

  8. Step 8: Shell pattern and sprout

On the shell, draw a few short zigzag lines that meet to make patches. Then draw a short straight stem growing up from the top and add two leaf shapes, like pointy ovals, at the top.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing Turtwig

  • Draw the head first and keep it big and round. Start the shell where the head curve ends so the two shapes meet.
  • The shell pattern is the trickiest part. Make a few short lines that meet in the middle, and do not worry if the patches are not the same size.
  • Draw the feet as soft beans that tuck under the shell. Keep them short and chubby so the turtle looks sturdy.
