How to Draw a Leprechaun Kitten (Easy Step by Step)

This leprechaun kitten is fun because it takes a plain, round cat and gives it a tall top hat and a bow tie. It is built from a few simple shapes: a wide oval for the head, round dots for the eyes, an oval for the hat brim, and curved lines for the body. Once you know the shapes, you can dress your kitten up any way you like.

How to draw a leprechaun kitten step by step

How to Draw a Leprechaun Kitten · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Head sides and whiskers

Draw the lower part of a wide, rounded head: a curve down the left side, along the bottom, and up the right side, leaving the top open. Add two short whisker lines sticking out from each side.

  3. Step 3: The pointy ears

On each side of the top of the head, draw a curved line that rises up and bends inward to a soft point. These are the two ears, and they are not joined to the head yet.

  4. Step 4: Body sides and tail

Under the head, draw a curved line down from each side of the chin to make the sides of the body. Let the left line swoop around at the bottom, and keep the right line shorter.

  5. Step 5: The top hat

Draw a wide, flat oval across the top of the head for the hat brim. Then draw a tall hat above it that is a little narrower at the bottom, with a gently curved top.

  6. Step 6: Hat band and buckle

Draw two short straight lines across the bottom of the tall hat to make a band. In the middle, add a small square buckle.

  7. Step 7: Eyes and smile

Draw two round, filled-in eyes, spaced wide apart in the middle of the face. Between them, add a tiny wavy smile.

  8. Step 8: Bow tie

Under the chin, draw a bow tie: two rounded triangles pointing toward each other with a tiny square knot in the middle. Below it, add a small U shape for the front of the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Feet and curly tail

At the bottom of the body, draw short curved lines for the feet and toes. Then draw a tail that curls up from the bottom right side like a hook.

  10. Step 10: The shamrock

Next to the kitten on the left, draw a puffy cloud shape with bumpy edges for the clover leaves. Add a short, curved stem at the bottom.

  11. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a leprechaun kitten

  • Draw the head sides and whiskers first and leave the top open. The hat will cover that space later.
  • Draw the hat brim as a wide, flat oval. If you get that right, the tall part of the hat sits on top of it easily.
  • For the shamrock, sketch a puffy cloud and add bumps one at a time. It does not need to be perfect to look lucky.
