How to Draw a Yawning Lion Cub (Easy Step by Step)
A yawning lion cub is fun to draw because it is built from big, friendly shapes: a round face, a puffy cloud for the mane, and a little body with stubby paws. The open mouth and closed eyes make the cub look sleepy and silly at the same time. If you can draw circles and bumpy clouds, you can draw this cub.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Face outline
Draw a wide, rounded shape like a soft pillow for the cub's face. Give it a small round bump at the top left and a wavy, bumpy line across the top.
Step 3: Fluffy mane
Draw a big, bumpy cloud shape all the way around the face. Wiggle up over the top and down both sides, then bring it back along the bottom, ending in a point under the chin.
Step 4: Round ear
On the top right, where the face meets the mane, draw a small circle for the ear.
Step 5: Body sides
Start at the left side of the mane and draw a curved line down and around to make the back leg. Then draw a line down from the right side of the mane that curls into a foot at the bottom.
Step 6: Paws and toes
Along the bottom, draw a few small curvy bumps between the two side lines for the paws. Add little short lines for the toes.
Step 7: Fluffy tail
On the left side, near the bottom of the body, draw a small teardrop shape for the fluffy tuft at the end of the tail and color it in.
Step 8: Face details
Draw two short curved lines like upside-down smiles for the closed eyes. Between them, draw a small rounded triangle for the nose, and under it a small open mouth shape that you color in dark.
Step 9: Little tongue
At the bottom of the open mouth, draw a small U shape for the tongue.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a yawning lion cub
- Draw the mane after the face, not before. The face shape then tells you how big a cloud to draw around it.
- Make the mane bumps different sizes. Some big and some small makes the fur look fluffy instead of like a flower.
- Color the open mouth dark last. Draw the nose and mouth first, then fill the mouth so the eyes and tongue stay clear.

Yawning lion cub fun fact for kids
Lion cubs are born with faint spots on their fur, and the spots fade as they grow up.
