How to Draw a Baguette (Easy Step by Step)
A baguette is a great first food drawing because it is really just a few slanted lines inside one long oval. Once you can draw a row of slashes and a stretched oval around them, you can make a loaf that looks fresh from a French bakery.

Step 1: The bread slashes
Draw five short, slanted lines in a row, like little leaning sticks. Make them about the same length and space them evenly, climbing up to the right.
Step 2: The long loaf
Draw a long, skinny oval around the slashes, leaning up to the right like a tilted hot dog bun. Make both ends nicely round, keep the sides almost straight, and let the top edge touch the top of the last slash.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a baguette
- Draw the five slashes first and keep them the same tilt and about the same distance apart. A little ruler trick: hold your pencil next to the first slash to check the next one.
- Draw the oval around the slashes. The long sides should be nearly straight, so try drawing each side in one smooth pull.
- Make the two ends round and not pointy. A rounded end is what makes it look like bread and not a pencil.

How to color your baguette drawing
Use golden yellow and light brown, with a darker brown along the edges and inside each slash so the crust looks toasty. For a twist, draw a bite taken out of one end or add a tiny French flag poking out of the top.
Baguette fun fact for kids
A traditional French baguette is cut with slashes before baking so the dough can expand in the hot oven. Those cuts open up into the golden ridges you see on top of the loaf.
Questions about drawing a baguette
What shapes do I need to draw a baguette?
You only need five short, slanted lines and one long oval around them. That is all it takes to make the loaf and its crispy cuts.
How do I make my baguette look more real?
Add a bit of shading along the bottom edge and color the slashes a darker brown than the rest of the loaf. A few dots for crumbs on the table help too.
Why does my baguette look wobbly?
Try drawing the oval slowly with a steady hand, one long side at a time. Turning your paper can help the long sides stay smooth.
