Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Padlock body
Start at the top left with a short flat line, then curve down into a small dip in the middle of the top, like a bean or a heart with no point. Come back up to a short flat line on the right, then curve down the sides and round the bottom, leaving a small gap on the right side.
Step 3: Outer shackle
On top of the lock, draw a tall upside-down U shape. Start at the two flat spots on top of the body, go straight up, then curve over in a big arch.
Step 4: Inner shackle
Draw a smaller upside-down U inside the big one. Keep it the same distance from the outer line so the metal bar looks even.
Step 5: Heart keyhole
In the middle of the lock, draw a small heart. Then add a short narrow shape under it that gets a little wider at the bottom, and color the whole keyhole in.
Step 6: The key
At the lower right, draw a round ring for the top of the key. Draw a long thin stick going down from the ring, and add two little square teeth sticking out to the right near the bottom.
Step 7: Key hole dot
Inside the round top of the key, near the upper right, draw a small circle and color it in. This is the hole where a key ring could go.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a key and a padlock
- Draw the lock body first and keep it a little left of center, so there is still room for the key on the lower right.
- For the two arches on top, make the inner one a little smaller and keep the gap between them the same all the way around.
- The heart keyhole is the trickiest part. Draw two small bumps on top, point them down to the middle, then add the narrow shape below.
