How to Draw a Picket Fence (Easy Step by Step)
A picket fence is a great first drawing because it is mostly straight lines and repeating shapes. You will use two long rails, pointy tops, and a simple five-petal flower peeking through the gap. Once you draw one pointed top, the rest are just copies.

Step 1: Two long rails
Draw two long, skinny rectangles with rounded corners, one near the top and one near the bottom. Keep them straight and the same length, like two sleepy sausages lying side by side.
Step 2: Pointed picket tops
On top of the upper rail, draw five little houses without bottoms: two short straight sides with a pointy roof on each. Space them evenly and let the sides touch the rail.
Step 3: Left fence boards
Between the two rails, draw tall straight lines going from the top rail down to the bottom rail. Draw four on the left side, and leave a wide gap in the middle for a flower.
Step 4: Right fence boards
Now draw four more tall straight lines on the right side, from the top rail down to the bottom rail. Space them evenly, just like the ones on the left.
Step 5: Bottom board ends
Under the bottom rail, draw five boxes with open tops and flat bottoms. Start each one at the rail and line them up under the pointy tops.
Step 6: The flower
In the gap, draw a small circle for the center, then add five round petals bumping out around it. Put a tiny dot in the middle, then add a little curly leaf under the flower.
Step 7: Stem
From the bottom of the flower, draw a straight line down to the bottom rail for the stem. Let it sit in the gap between the boards.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a picket fence
- Draw the two rails first and keep them parallel. They hold everything else in place, so straight rails make the whole fence look neat.
- Make the first pointed top, then copy its size for the other four. Lightly marking the spots with dots helps you space them evenly.
- For the flower, start with the small center circle and add petals around it like numbers on a clock. If a petal looks wobbly, that is fine, because real flowers are not perfect.
