Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head and back
Draw a big curve for the top of the head that swoops down into the back, with a small bend at the shoulder and the line ending partway down. Then draw a curved line on the left for the chest and tummy, starting below the beak spot and curving down and to the right.
Step 3: The beak
On the left side of the head, draw a rounded hook-shaped beak that points down, like a small shield. Color it in so it looks solid.
Step 4: The eye
Draw one small round dot for the eye, to the right of the beak and a little above it.
Step 5: Wing line
Start in the middle of the body and draw a curved line that goes down, then sweeps to the right like a letter J. This is the front edge of the folded wing.
Step 6: Wing tip and tail
At the bottom end of the back line, draw a small pointed shape and color it in for the wing tip. Then draw a long loop that hangs down from it for the tail, with a line that runs to the left along the bottom.
Step 7: The feet
Near the bottom of the tummy, draw two small bumpy shapes side by side for the feet, and color them in. Join them with short lines so they look like they are holding on.
Step 8: The perch
Draw two straight lines going across the bottom, starting at the feet and stretching out to the left, for the branch. Add a short slanted line near the tail to finish the perch.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an African grey parrot
- Draw the big rounded shape for the head and back lightly first. The head and body flow together, so do not add a neck line.
- The beak is the trickiest part. Make a rounded hook that points down, then color it in solid.
- Keep the two feet about the same size and let them sit right on the branch lines so the bird looks like it is really perched.
