How to draw a horse jumping a fence step by step

  1. Step 1: Face and neck line

Start at the top of the head and draw a curved line down the front of the face, bumping out for the nose and curving in under the chin. Let the line drop straight down to start the chest.

  2. Step 2: First ear

Draw a small curved bump, like a tiny upside-down U, to the right of the top of the head. This is the ear.

  3. Step 3: Belly and back

Draw a curl at the bottom of the chest and let the line sweep to the right in a gentle curve for the belly. Then add a short curved line up high on the right for the top of the back.

  4. Step 4: Legs and first post

Add a small curved line on the chest for the front leg and a little curl at the end of the belly. Then draw a tall rounded rectangle on the right with a line rising from it for the back leg.

  5. Step 5: Mane, fringe, and tail

Fill in a swoopy fringe at the top of the head, a wavy mane along the neck, and a flowing tail at the back. Color each one in solid.

  6. Step 6: Eyes and nose

Draw two round dots for the eyes and one tiny dot near the front of the face for the nose.

  7. Step 7: Second fence post

On the left, draw a tall rounded rectangle for the second fence post, with a small rectangle sticking out on its left side. Add a matching small rectangle on the right side of the first post.

  8. Step 8: The fence rails

Join the two posts with two long straight bars, one above the other. Now the horse is ready to jump!

  9. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.
