Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Bottom cake sides
Start low on the page. Draw two straight sides going down, then connect them with a wide curve with soft, rounded bottom corners. Leave the top open, like a tub.
Step 3: Plate rim and frosting
Across the top of the base, draw a straight line that sticks out a little on each side, with short sides curving down. Then draw a wavy scallop line of little hills just under it for the frosting.
Step 4: Middle layer
Above the rim, draw a wide, puffy rounded rectangle, like a fat pillow. Add a small bump on its top left corner, and finish the curl at the left end of the rim.
Step 5: More cream bumps
On top of the middle layer, draw two more dome shapes next to the first bump, so there are three in a row. Let each dome sit right on the layer line.
Step 6: Little frosting loops
Tuck a small rounded U shape under the rim on the left, in the middle, and on the right. Each one hangs down from the rim like a little drop.
Step 7: Strawberry shapes
On top of each cream dome, draw a strawberry. Start wide at the top with a small notch in the middle, then curve both sides in to a point at the bottom.
Step 8: Leaves and seeds
Add a small leafy cap on top of each strawberry. Then dot three seeds on each berry: two side by side and one below.
Step 9: The happy face
On the bottom cake, draw two round dots for eyes. Between them and a little lower, add a small curved smile.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a strawberry shortcake
- Draw the three strawberries the same size by lining up their tops with the same imaginary line before you start.
- The scallop line under the rim is the trickiest part. Make each hill about the same width, and let the line dip down between hills.
- Keep the three seed dots small and spread out. If you make them too big, they will crowd the strawberry.
