Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Draw a big wide oval for the head, a little wider than it is tall. Leave a small gap at the very top, because the hat will sit there.
Step 3: Round ears
Draw a round, half-circle ear on each upper side of the head, joined to the oval. They should stick out like two fluffy buttons.
Step 4: Santa hat
Draw a long rounded rectangle across the top of the head for the fuzzy brim. Add a curved dome on top that flops to the right, and finish with a small circle for the pom-pom.
Step 5: Eyes and nose
Make two small dots for eyes, spaced wide apart. Between them and a little lower, draw a tall oval for the big koala nose.
Step 6: Body and present
Under the head, draw a little squiggle below the nose, then a rounded body shape like half a ball. In the middle of it, draw a small square present with a cross of lines and a bow on top.
Step 7: Little arms
Draw a curved arm on each side of the present, as if the koala is hugging it. Start each arm near the shoulder and curve it down and around to the box.
Step 8: Big feet
At the bottom, draw two wide flat ovals for feet, one on each side. Place them right below the body.
Step 9: Inner ear curves
Inside each ear, draw a short curved line that follows the edge of the ear, like a little smile tilted sideways.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas koala
- Draw the head oval wide and keep your lines light, so the ears and hat have room to fit around it.
- The nose is the star of the face. Make it a tall oval and keep it centered between the two eyes.
- Draw the present as a simple square first, then add the cross lines and the bow on top. Draw the arms after the box so they wrap around its edges.
- Save the little curved lines inside the ears for the very end.

How to color your Christmas koala drawing
Color the koala soft gray with a pale pink inside the ears, a dark gray nose, a red hat with a white brim and pom-pom, and a gift in green and gold. For a creative twist, give the present polka dots or add falling snowflakes around the koala.
Christmas koala fun fact for kids
Koalas sleep about 18 to 22 hours a day, mostly because the eucalyptus leaves they eat give them very little energy. They are marsupials, not bears, and baby koalas ride in their mother's pouch.
