A baby koala is a great first animal to draw because it is made almost entirely of ovals and circles. You will build a round head, two fluffy ears, a big nose and a cozy tummy holding a eucalyptus leaf. If you can draw an egg shape, you can draw this koala.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw a big wide oval for the koala's head. Make it a little wider than it is tall, and leave room above and below it.
Step 3: The round ears
Draw a big circle on each top corner of the head, tucked behind it. Each ear should peek out like a round bump.
Step 4: Inner ears
Draw a smaller circle inside each big ear circle. Leave a gap so the ears look fluffy.
Step 5: Smile and tummy
Draw a tiny smile, a little wiggly 'w' shape, just under the head. Then draw the sides of the round tummy curving down from the head, and add a few short dashes on the tummy for fur.
Step 6: Arms and feet
Draw a tall oval on each side of the body for the arms. Then add a flat oval under each arm for a foot.
Step 7: The first eye
Draw one small dot for an eye on one side of the face, about halfway down the head.
Step 8: Nose and second eye
Draw a tall oval in the middle of the face, just above the smile. Then add a small dot on the other side of the face for the second eye, level with the first.
Step 9: The eucalyptus leaf
Draw a pointy leaf shape on the tummy, like a lemon standing up. Then draw a gently curved line down the middle from the top tip to the bottom tip.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a baby koala
- Draw the head oval first and make it wide. Then the ears have a clear place to tuck in behind it.
- The big nose is the trickiest part. Draw it as a tall egg and keep it in the middle, with an eye dot on each side.
- Draw the leaf as a pointy lemon shape, then add the curved center line from tip to tip so it looks like a real leaf.

How to color your baby koala drawing
Color the koala soft gray with pink inside the ears and a dark gray nose, and make the leaf green. For a twist, give the koala a rainbow of leaves to munch on or put it on a sleepy tree branch.
Baby koala fun fact for kids
Koalas sleep for around 18 to 22 hours a day, because eucalyptus leaves give them very little energy. A baby koala is called a joey and spends its first months in its mother's pouch.
