A kangaroo with a baby peeking out of its pouch is a sweet drawing, and it is made almost entirely from circles and ovals. You will start with a round head and an egg-shaped body, then add long ears, arms, big feet, and a curvy tail. The tiny joey in the pouch is the best part.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw the top of the kangaroo's head as a curved line, like an upside-down U. Leave the bottom open so the body can join it later.
Step 3: The big body
Start under the head on the left and draw a big rounded curve down and around to the bottom. Do the same on the right side, so the body looks like a wide egg that is open at the very bottom.
Step 4: The long ears
Draw two tall, skinny ovals sticking up from the top of the head, leaning a little away from each other. Add a smaller oval inside each ear.
Step 5: Arms and feet
Draw a tall oval on each side of the body for the arms. Then draw two wide, flat ovals at the bottom of the body for the big kangaroo feet.
Step 6: The long tail
Start at the back of the body near the right foot and draw a curved line sweeping out to a point. Bring a second line back to the body to close the tail shape.
Step 7: The muzzle
Near the bottom of the head, draw a small oval for the muzzle.
Step 8: The pouch
On the belly, draw a big smile-shaped curve like a bowl. Add a short little flap at each top end of the bowl.
Step 9: Face and baby joey
Draw two small dots for eyes, then add a little nose and a tiny smile line inside the muzzle. Peeking out of the pouch, draw a small round head for the joey with two little pointy ears and two tiny dots for eyes.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kangaroo with a joey
- Draw the head and body curves lightly at first, so you can fix the size before you draw the final lines.
- The joey is small, so draw its head as a simple circle and add the two pointy ears last.
- Make the two feet wide ovals about the same size, and let them sit side by side at the bottom so the kangaroo looks steady.

Kangaroo with a joey fun fact for kids
A baby kangaroo is called a joey, and it is only about the size of a jellybean when it is born. It crawls into its mother's pouch and stays there for months while it grows.
