Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Puddle and body
Start at the left of your page and draw one wide, flat puddle shape with rounded ends. Then let the line curve up into a tall rounded hill for the snowman's body, and stop the hill at the top with a gap where the head will go.
Step 3: The round head
Draw a circle sitting in the gap on top of the body. Start the circle on one side of the gap and loop around to the other side so it joins the top of the body.
Step 4: The top hat
On top of the head, draw a rectangle with rounded corners that leans a little to one side. Then draw a curved line across the bottom of the rectangle for the brim, wrapping over the top of the head.
Step 5: Bow and eyes
Draw a small blobby bow on the hat where the rectangle meets the brim. Then draw two little dots on the head for the eyes.
Step 6: Nose and smile
Draw a short, rounded carrot nose pointing to the side in the middle of the face. Then draw a wobbly smile curve underneath it.
Step 7: Scarf and melt line
Draw a wavy line across the bottom of the body where the snowman meets the puddle. Below it, draw a long ribbon shape lying flat in the puddle for the scarf, with a few short fringe lines at the right end. Add a short stick on the right side of the puddle.
Step 8: Stick and drops
Draw a short stick on the left side of the puddle with a tiny twig branching off. Then draw two small raindrop shapes on the left, each with a pointy top and a round bottom.
Step 9: The smiling sun
In the top right corner, draw a small circle for the sun. Add two dots and a curved smile inside, then draw short lines and dots all around it for the rays.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a melting snowman
- Draw the puddle wide, wider than you think you need. The body rises out of it, so a big flat shape gives you lots of room for the scarf and sticks.
- The hat is the trickiest part. Draw the rectangle first, then the curved brim across its bottom edge, and let it lean a little for a goofy look.
- Keep the smile wobbly on purpose. A shaky line makes the snowman look like he is melting.

How to color your melting snowman drawing
Use light blue for the puddle and shadows on the snow, a black or purple hat, and a red or striped scarf with an orange nose. For a creative twist, color the sun with swirls of orange and yellow, and make the drops a darker blue.
Melting snowman fun fact for kids
Snow is made of tiny ice crystals, and ice melts into water when the temperature rises above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. That is why a snowman slowly slumps into a puddle on a warm, sunny day.
