How to Draw Carl Fredricksen From Up · tinyhandscreate.com
Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Head outline
Draw a wide, wobbly dome for the head, with a small round bump on each side for the ears. Leave the bottom of the head open.
Step 3: Shoulders and body
Under the head, draw two short curved lines for the shoulders. Then draw the sides of a rounded body going down from them, with a little curl at each side for the tops of the arms.
Step 4: Shoes
At the bottom of the body, draw two small flat oval shoes side by side, joined by a short line between them.
Step 5: Arms and bow loops
On the left, draw a curved arm that bends down to a small hand. On the right, draw an arm bending up and finish it with a small round fist. Under his chin, add two little loops for the sides of a bow tie.
Step 6: The walking cane
Draw a straight stick down from his left hand to the ground. Give the top a small curve where his hand rests.
Step 7: Square glasses
Draw two rounded squares on his face, side by side, with a tiny gap between them.
Step 8: Face and balloon knots
Draw a dot inside each glasses frame for eyes, a small curved eyebrow above each, and a little smile. Add a short line at each side of the glasses for the arms. Up high on the right, draw a small zigzag shape for the balloon knots.
Step 9: Bow tie knot
Between the two bow loops under his chin, draw a small square for the knot of the bow tie.
Step 10: Three balloons
Above the knots, draw one big oval balloon in the middle. Then draw two more ovals, one peeking out behind each side of it.
Step 11: Balloon strings
Draw three straight lines from the balloon knots down. Let them all meet at his fist.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing Carl Fredricksen from Up
- Draw the glasses as rounded squares, not circles, and keep both about the same size so Carl looks like himself.
- The balloons overlap, so draw the big middle one first and stop the side ones where they touch its edge.
- Let all three strings meet at one spot at his fist so they look like they are really being held.
