How to draw an egg step by step

How to Draw an Egg · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The egg shape

Start near the top and draw a big, smooth egg. Make the top a little narrow, then let the sides curve out wide and round at the bottom. Close the shape where you began.

  3. Step 3: The shine line

Inside the egg on the upper left, draw a short curved line that follows the edge of the egg, like a little rainbow. It shows where the light bounces off the shell.

  4. Step 4: The tiny sparkle

Below the end of the shine line, near the left edge, draw a very small circle with an even tinier circle inside it. It is a little sparkle that goes with the shine.

  5. Step 5: The happy face

Low on the egg, draw two small dots for eyes, side by side. Below them, draw a little smile that curves like a U. Then draw a small oval on each side of the smile for cheeks, with a tiny oval inside each one.

  6. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an egg

  • Draw the egg shape lightly first. The top should be a little narrower than the bottom, so it looks like an egg and not a circle.
  • Place the face low on the egg, below the middle. This makes it look extra cute and gives the shine line room at the top.
  • Draw the shine line so it follows the curve of the egg's edge, a little way inside it. Keep it a short, gentle curve.

Try a pale cream or soft tan for the shell and light pink for the cheeks. For a creative twist, color it like an Easter egg with stripes, dots, or zigzags.

Egg fun fact for kids

An eggshell is covered in thousands of tiny holes called pores. They are too small to see, but they let air pass through so a growing chick can breathe inside.

Questions about drawing an egg

What shapes do I need to draw an egg?

You only need one big oval that is narrower at the top and wider at the bottom. The face uses two dots for eyes, a small curve for the smile, and two little ovals for the cheeks.

How do I make my egg look cuter?

Put the eyes and smile low on the egg and keep the eyes small. Oval cheeks on each side of the smile make it look extra sweet.

How do I draw a smooth egg shape?

Draw slowly in one curved line, and turn your paper as you go if that helps. If it looks lumpy, sketch it lightly first and then trace over the best parts.
