Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The bowl
Draw a wide, flat curve across the top for the back edge of the rim. Then draw a big U shape hanging down from both ends of it for the sides of the bowl, leaving a small gap at the top right and at the bottom.
Step 3: Saucer and foot
Draw a short, curved line near the bottom of the bowl for its little foot. Then draw a big, flat oval around the bottom for the saucer, so the bowl looks like it is sitting on it.
Step 4: Inside the rim
Draw two short, curved lines just inside the top of the bowl, one on the left side and one on the right. They show the front edge of the rim, with a gap left in the middle.
Step 5: Rim and spoon
Draw a long curved line along the inside of the rim, joining the two short lines. Then draw a skinny stick leaning up to the right with a rounded end for the spoon handle, and a small spoon shape where it dips into the soup.
Step 6: Noodle rings
Along the soup, near the spoon, draw a few little circles and squiggly blobs. They are the noodles and bits floating in the soup.
Step 7: Happy face
Draw two small dots for eyes on the front of the bowl, about the same height. Between them and a little lower, add a small smile shaped like a curve.
Step 8: Steam
Above the bowl, draw three tall, wavy lines that go up like squiggly snakes. Start each one just above the rim and make them about the same height.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a bowl of soup
- Draw the rim wide and flat. If it is too tall, the bowl will look like a bucket instead of a bowl.
- Draw the spoon before the noodle rings, then draw the rings next to it so you do not cross over its lines.
- For the steam, draw each squiggle with one slow, steady line. Wobbly is fine, because real steam wiggles too.
