Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The eggplant body
Start at the top left and draw a curve that goes down and around to make a round, wide bottom. Then curve back up the right side so the body looks like a plump pear, narrow at the top. Leave the top open for now.
Step 3: The leafy cap
Across the open top of the body, draw a flat, wavy collar like a little crown. Make it a bit wider than the top of the body, with a pointed tip on each side and a small dip in the middle.
Step 4: The stem
Draw a short, thick stem standing up from the middle of the cap. Make two lines that go up and join with a slanted top, like a little chimney.
Step 5: The shine line
Inside the left side of the body, start near the top edge and draw one short curved line that bends down like the edge of a bracket. It shows where the light shines on the smooth skin.
Step 6: The happy face
Add two small round dots for eyes in the middle of the body. Then draw a little smile that curves like a tiny bowl between the eyes and just below them.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an eggplant
- Sketch the body as a light pear shape first, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. That shape is what makes it look like an eggplant instead of a ball.
- The cap is the trickiest part. Draw the pointed tips on the left and right first, then connect them with a wavy line along the top and bottom.
- Keep the shine line short and curved, and stop it well before the eyes so the face has room to breathe.

How to color your eggplant drawing
Color the body deep purple and the cap and stem green. Leave the shine line white or light lavender. For a creative twist, try a rainbow of purple shades on the body.
Eggplant fun fact for kids
Eggplants got their name because some early kinds were small, white, and round, so they looked like eggs hanging on the plant. Botanists say an eggplant is really a berry.

How do I make my eggplant look cuter?
