How to Draw a Slice of Watermelon (Easy Step by Step)
A watermelon slice is a great first drawing because it is mostly one big curve and a few tiny shapes. You will use a straight line, two bowl-shaped curves, two dots, a smile, and some short seed marks. Add a face and it turns into a friendly little character.

Step 1: The flat top
Near the top of your page, draw one long straight line from left to right. This is the cut edge of the slice, so leave plenty of room below it.
Step 2: The outer rind
Start at the left end of the top line and draw a big smooth curve down and around, like a bowl. Finish by curving back up to the right end of the line to make a half circle.
Step 3: The inner curve
Draw a second, smaller bowl curve inside the first one, a little way in from the edge. Start on the top line just inside the left end, swoop down, and come back up to touch the top line just inside the right end.
Step 4: A happy face
In the middle of the inside part, draw two small round dots for eyes, side by side. Add a little smile curve below them, centered between the eyes.
Step 5: Top seeds
Draw two short, slanted seed marks up high inside the slice, one near the left side and one near the right. Tilt them so the bottoms lean toward the face.
Step 6: Bottom seeds
Add three more small seeds near the bottom curve. Draw a slanted one low on the left, a slanted one low on the right, and a tiny upright one in the very middle.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a slice of watermelon
- The two curves are the trickiest part. Draw the outer rind first, then draw the inner curve about a finger's width inside it so the band stays the same thickness all the way around.
- Start the bowl curves at the ends of the flat top line and let your hand swing in one smooth motion. If it wobbles, lightly sketch the half circle in pencil first.
- Keep the seeds small and leave space around the face. Draw the eyes level with each other and the smile right in the middle so the face looks happy.

How to color your slice of watermelon drawing
Color the outer band green, leave the thin band inside it pale, and fill the middle with red or pink. Then make the seeds black. For a creative twist, make a rainbow watermelon with a different color in each band.
Slice of watermelon fun fact for kids
A watermelon is about 92 percent water. The rind can be eaten too, and in some places people pickle it.
