How to Draw a Valentine’s Day Rose (Easy Step by Step)
A rose can look tricky, but this one is built from simple shapes: a rounded cup, a small swirl, two curved front petals, two pointed leaves, and a bow. Take it one curve at a time and the petals will start to look like a real flower. It makes a sweet card for Valentine's Day or any day.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The rose bloom
Start with a big rounded cup shape for the flower, with a wavy, scalloped edge across the top like a cloud. Let the sides curve down and around to a smooth, round bottom.
Step 3: The center swirl
Inside the top of the flower, draw a small curly loop like a little hill, then wrap a few curved lines around it. These are the tiny petals in the middle.
Step 4: Front petals
Draw two big curved lines from the left and right sides of the flower that sweep down and meet in a point, like a letter V. Add a short line from that point down toward the bottom of the flower, and a short line across the top of the V.
Step 5: Sepals and stem start
Under the flower, draw two small pointy leaves, one on each side, like tiny wings. Then draw one long, straight line going down from between them.
Step 6: The long stem
Draw a second long line next to the first one, so the two lines make a thin tube. Then draw a small narrow tube shape lower down for the end of the stem.
Step 7: Two big leaves
Draw a leaf on each side of the stem, shaped like a pointed oval or a lemon. Start each one near the stem and curve it out and up to a point.
Step 8: The bow
Around the stem, draw a small knot, then a loop on each side like bunny ears. Add two ribbon tails hanging down with little notches at the ends.
Step 9: A floating heart
Next to the rose, draw a little heart. Make two bumps at the top and bring the lines down to a point.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Valentine's Day rose
- The swirl in the middle is the trickiest part. Draw a tiny hill first, then wrap a curved line around it, and it will work.
- The two front petals sweep down from the sides and meet in a point like a V. Draw them lightly first so you can fix the curve.
- Draw the two stem lines close together and keep them nearly parallel so the stem looks like a thin tube.

Valentine's Day rose fun fact for kids
Roses have been grown in gardens for thousands of years, and the rose is the national flower of the United States. The pointy bumps on rose stems are called prickles, not thorns.
