Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The tall body
Draw a tall egg shape standing upright. Trace its smooth outline, leaving a small gap at the top right and leaving the bottom open because the pot will cover it.
Step 3: The two arms
On each side of the body, draw a curved arm shaped like half an oval. Start each line on the body, swing it out and up, then bring it back to the body lower down.
Step 4: The flower pot
Draw a wide rounded rectangle across the bottom of the body for the rim. Under it, draw a shape like an upside-down trapezoid with a rounded bottom for the pot.
Step 5: The happy face
Draw two small filled circles for eyes, side by side in the upper middle of the body. Add a little curved smile between and below them.
Step 6: The big heart
In the lower middle of the body, draw two round bumps side by side. Then draw two lines that slope down from the bumps and meet at a point to finish the heart.
Step 7: The little hands
On each side of the heart, draw a small curved hand that wraps around its edge. Add a short line from each hand to the heart so it looks like the cactus is hugging it.
Step 8: The flower
At the top right of the head, draw a small circle for the center. Draw a ring of round bumps around it to make the petals, and tuck the flower against the cactus.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Valentine cactus
- Draw the egg-shaped body first. A tall, even shape makes the whole cactus look balanced.
- Draw the heart in the middle of the body before the hands. Then the hands have something to wrap around, and they are easier to place.
- Make the two arms about the same size. Start both at the same height on the body so the cactus looks happy and symmetrical.
