Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head top and ears
Start with the top of the head: draw a wavy line with two small round bumps for the ears, then curve the line down the left side of the face. Add a tiny curve on the right side of the head. Draw one straight line going up from the left side of the head.
Step 3: Chubby body and feet
Draw the right side of the round body, with a small bump for the arm. Curve along the bottom with two little bumps for the feet, then bring the line up the left side to meet the head. Add one more straight line going up from the right side of the head.
Step 4: Face
Draw two small solid dots for the eyes, wide apart in the middle of the head. Between them, a little lower, add a tiny wavy line for the mouth.
Step 5: Water bottle and floor
To the left of the hamster, draw a small rounded rectangle for the water bottle, with a little cap and spout curve on top. Draw a flat floor line going left from the bottom of the bottle, and add a tiny dash above it.
Step 6: Wheel outline
Draw a big curved line like the letter C for the back of the exercise wheel. Start near the hamster's arm, curve left and down, and end at the floor line.
Step 7: Wheel stand and base
Inside the wheel, draw a tall skinny triangle with a small round loop on top for the stand. Then draw a flat base under it that is a little wider than the triangle.
Step 8: The cage frame
Draw a big rectangle around everything, with a rounded corner at the top right. Draw a straight line just under the top edge to make the top rail. Stop the bottom lines where they meet the wheel and the hamster.
Step 9: The cage bars
Draw straight up-and-down lines from the top rail down toward the floor. Stop each bar where it meets the hamster or the wheel, so the bars look like they are in back.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a hamster in a cage
- Draw the hamster before the cage bars. Then stop each bar where it touches the hamster or the wheel, so the bars look like they are behind.
- The round body is the trickiest part. Sketch a light oval first, then trace over it with the bumpy feet and tiny arm.
- Keep the eyes small and put them far apart with the mouth low between them. That is what makes the face look sweet.
