Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round helmet
Draw a big curved line that makes almost a full circle near the top middle of your page for the helmet. Leave a gap at the bottom left where the neck will go.
Step 3: Visor and side bump
Inside the helmet, draw a large rounded oval for the window and fill it in dark, leaving a couple of little white shine marks near the top right. Then add a small curved bump on the right edge of the helmet.
Step 4: Left ear piece
On the left side of the helmet, draw a small tall oval with an even smaller oval inside it. Add a tiny dot to the left of it and a short curved line just below.
Step 5: The backpack
Behind the helmet on the left, draw a tall rounded shape for the backpack. Let the line curve around the bottom and finish with a small curl.
Step 6: Collar, body and arm
Under the helmet, draw a curved collar line from the left to the right. Then draw a wavy line going down from the right end for the side of the body, with a bent arm and a round fist sticking out on the right. Add a small curved line on the left for the other arm.
Step 7: The chest panel
Draw a small rectangle with rounded corners in the middle of the chest. Put two little dots inside it.
Step 8: Legs and boots
Draw the back leg bending to the left with a rounded boot. Then draw the front leg going down on the right, ending in a wide, rounded boot.
Step 9: The moon ground
Draw one big curved hill under the boots, from the bottom left up and over to the bottom right. It should look like the top of a giant ball.
Step 10: Moon craters
Add ovals of different sizes on the moon for craters, plus a few tiny dots near the left. Peek one small curved crater at the very bottom edge.
Step 11: Twinkling stars
Fill the sky with four-pointed stars of different sizes. Draw a diamond shape, then curve each side inward so the points look sharp.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an astronaut walking on the moon
- Draw the helmet circle first and keep it big. Everything else is easier to place once you know where the head is.
- The boots are the trickiest part. Think of each one as a soft bean shape, and let the front boot sit right on top of the moon line.
- Draw the moon hill after the boots, so you can make it curve just where the feet land.
