How to draw a football helmet step by step

How to Draw a Football Helmet · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Helmet outline

Draw a big rounded dome with a flat bottom, like half an egg lying on its side. Near the right side, let the top dip in a little, then bump out into a smaller rounded shape that ends at the flat bottom.

  3. Step 3: Face guard edge

On the right side, draw a nearly straight line going down from the dip in the top to the flat bottom. This line splits the big dome from the small rounded shape.

  4. Step 4: The ear hole

Draw a small tall oval in the lower middle of the big dome, a little left of the line you just drew.

  5. Step 5: The chin strap

Start at the bottom left of the oval and draw a smooth curve that swoops down and then to the right, like a little smile.

  6. Step 6: The top stripes

Draw two long curved lines across the top of the dome, one above the other. Start them on the left side and curve them up and over toward the dip on the right.

  7. Step 7: The face guard bars

In the small rounded shape on the right, draw three straight lines going across, spaced evenly from top to bottom. Start each one at the left line and stop near the round edge.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a football helmet

  • Make the dome first and keep the bottom nearly flat, so the helmet looks like it is sitting on a table.
  • The ear hole is the trickiest part to place. Draw it in the lower middle of the dome, not too close to the line on the right.
  • Draw the three face guard bars one at a time, and try to keep them about the same distance apart.

Questions about drawing a football helmet

What shapes do I need to draw a football helmet?

You need a big rounded dome with a smaller rounded shape on the right, a small oval for the ear hole, and a few curved and straight lines for the chin strap, stripes and face guard bars.

How do I make my football helmet look more real?

Add two curved stripes across the top and a chin strap that swoops out from the ear hole. Those small details make it look like a real helmet.

Why does my helmet look lopsided?

Try sketching a light oval first and drawing the outline over it. The light oval helps you keep both sides round and even.
