The Big Bad Wolf is a favorite storybook character, and this cartoon version looks more sleepy than scary. He is built from curves, ovals, and triangles, so it is a great drawing for beginners. The three swirly puffs of wind are the best part.

How to draw the Big Bad Wolf step by step

How to Draw the Big Bad Wolf · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Cheek curves

Draw two curved lines that bend inward like the sides of a bowl, one on the left and one on the right. These are the lower cheeks of the wolf's face, with a gap between them.

  2. Step 2: Face and muzzle

Draw two small dots for eyes. Between them, lower down, draw a rounded muzzle with a tiny oval inside for the mouth, then add a curved line under it for the chin. Add the short side lines near the neck and the small marks on the left that start the tail.

  3. Step 3: The sleeping cap

Draw a tall rounded hat on top of the head that curls down on the right side. Add a wavy line across the forehead for the hat's edge and a little round pom-pom at the tip.

  4. Step 4: Ears

Draw a pointy triangle ear on each side at the top of the head, poking out beside the hat. Then draw a rounded loop ear at each lower cheek.

  5. Step 5: Arms and feet

Draw a long skinny oval on each side of the tummy for the arms. Then add two flat ovals at the bottom for the feet, and finish the round body line down to them.

  6. Step 6: Bushy tail

On the left, draw a big curved tail that sweeps out from the back and ends in a zigzag tip, like a row of little mountains.

  7. Step 7: The nose

Draw a rounded triangle for the nose at the top of the muzzle, just above the little oval mouth. You can fill it in solid.

  8. Step 8: Wind swirls

On the right, draw three short straight lines stacked one above the other. Curl the end of each line into a little swirl to show the wolf huffing and puffing.

  9. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing the Big Bad Wolf

  • Draw lightly at first, so you can fix the cheek curves and the body before you press hard.
  • The wavy edge of the hat is the trickiest part. Make it as a row of small, even bumps, like a tiny hill range.
  • For the wind swirls, draw the straight line first, then curl the end around into a snail shell shape.
