How to Draw a Kid Playing Drums (Easy Step by Step)
A kid with drumsticks held high is full of energy, and it is easier to draw than it looks. The whole picture is built from ovals and straight lines: a round head, a drum with straight sides, and long thin sticks. Add a happy smile and a headband and your drummer is ready to play.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big round head
Draw a big, slightly wide oval for the head near the top of your page. Stop just before the bottom so there is a small gap under the chin.
Step 3: The headband
Draw two curved lines across the forehead, one above the other, so they make a band that hugs the head. Let both ends touch the sides of the head.
Step 4: Face and collar
Add two round dots for eyes and a little curvy smile in the middle of the face. Then fill in a small half circle under the chin for the collar, and add a tiny curled hand shape on the left side.
Step 5: Drum and cymbal
Below the head, draw two straight sides going down and curve the bottom like a smile to make the drum. Then, to the right of the head, draw a small flat oval for the cymbal.
Step 6: Arms and fists
Draw a short curved line from each side of the collar out to a little round fist on each top corner of the drum. Make each fist a small loop.
Step 7: The drumsticks
Draw two long, straight lines slanting up and outward from the fists, like a V. Make them about the same length.
Step 8: Drum decorations
Draw a curved line across the drum, a little below the top. Then draw a zigzag of pointy mountains across the middle of the drum.
Step 9: Drum rim and cymbal stand
Draw a curved line across the top of the drum, between the two fists, for the rim. Then draw a straight pole down from the middle of the cymbal and finish with two legs spreading out like an upside-down V.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid playing drums
- Sketch the head as a light oval first, so the headband lines can curve with the same shape and end exactly on the edge.
- Make the two drum sides straight and the bottom curve gentle. When the rim curve at the top matches the bottom curve, the drum looks round instead of flat.
- Draw the drumsticks after the fists, starting at each fist and slanting outward. Make both sticks about the same length so the drummer looks balanced.

How to color your kid playing drums drawing
Try a red headband, a bright blue drum with a yellow zigzag, and silver or gold for the cymbal. For a creative twist, draw musical notes and stars floating around the drummer.
Kid playing drums fun fact for kids
A snare drum has thin metal wires, called snares, stretched across the bottom skin. When the drum is hit, the wires rattle against it, and that gives the drum its crisp, buzzy sound.
