This cute tarantula is fun to draw because it is mostly one big round body with a friendly face and four long, rounded legs on each side. You only need curved lines, round dots, and long rounded leg shapes. Once you can draw one leg, the rest are the same shape again.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Top of the body
Draw a big curved arch in the middle of your paper, like the top of a circle. Stop a little way down on each side, because the rest of the body comes later.
Step 3: The big eyes
Draw two round eyes in the middle of the arch, side by side with a gap between them. Color them in solid.
Step 4: The happy smile
Between and just below the eyes, draw a small curved line like a little bowl. It makes your spider look friendly.
Step 5: Top legs
On each side of the body, draw one long curved line. Start it at the side of the body, bend it up and over, then let it slope down and out to a small curl at the end.
Step 6: Second legs
Under each top leg, draw another long rounded leg shape. Start it at the side of the body and bend it down and outward to a round tip.
Step 7: Third legs
Add one more long rounded leg on each side, below the second ones. Each one starts at the body and leans outward and down to a round tip.
Step 8: Little leg joints
Draw a short curved line low on each side of the body, just inside the legs. These small curves show where the lower legs join the body.
Step 9: Front legs
Draw a tall, narrow loop on each side near the bottom of the body. Start each one at the joint, stretch it down, and finish with a round tip.
Step 10: The belly line
Finish with a gentle curved line along the bottom of the body. It joins the two front legs.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a tarantula
- Start with a light, round arch for the body, then add the legs so they touch the body's edge. The legs are the trickiest part, so leave room on both sides of the body.
- Draw each leg as a long shape with a round tip. Try to make the legs on the left and right about the same length, like a mirror.
- Make the two eyes the same size by drawing one, then using it as a guide for the other. Leave a gap between them so the smile sits nicely below.

How to color your tarantula drawing
Try a dark brown or purple body with lighter legs. The eyes are solid dots, so keep them black. For something different, give each leg a different stripe color.
Tarantula fun fact for kids
A tarantula can regrow a lost leg. Each time it molts, which means it sheds its old skin, the new leg grows back a little bigger.
